1991 Trek 8700

Back Home Up Next

This is an example of Treks earlier composite frames. The tubes use a Spectra polyethylene sleeve with fiberglass ends to protect against galvanic corrosion.  The sleeves are wrapped with 7 layer uni-directional graphite construction of 100% carbon fiber.  These layers are then over-wrapped with a bias woven layer for extra strength and protection.  The tubes are then bonded to squeeze cast aluminum lugs.  The drivetrain consists of mainly Suntour XC Pro stuff with Bullseye hubs, Dia Compe brake set and Sugino crank.
