    1982 Fat Chance

This bike is not for sale. The bikes and parts we currently have for sale can be found on the MOMBAT for sale page.

Chris Chance began his frame building at Witcomb USA which also started the careers of Richard Sachs and Peter Weigle.  Founded during the bike boom years of the early 1970's, Witcomb USA folded and Chris Chance began building road bikes under his own name.  When mountain bikes began gaining in popularity, Chris Chance became one of the earliest East Coast mountain bike builders under the Fat Chance moniker.  In 1982, Fat Chance produced 15 mountain bikes, this one being the 13th made.  The early bikes were fillet brazed and included a fillet brazed box crown fork which used Reynolds 531 blades.  Since mountain bike specific parts were still a year away, the early bikes used a combination of touring, BMX on motorcycle sourced parts.   One interesting component is the direct mount front derailleur which is now becoming standard
