1994 Fat Chance Shock A Billy

This bike is not for sale. The bikes and parts we currently have for sale can be found on the MOMBAT for sale page.

By 1994, it was becoming evident that full suspension was around to stay.  Most of the major manufacturers had fs bikes on the market and the smaller manufacturers were trying to keep up.  There were quite a few designs coming on line with varying degrees of success.  Many of the suspension fork makers were coming out with second generation designs based on the feedback gleaned from the first gen forks.  Most bike makers would buy a suspension fork from someone like Rock Shox or Manitou and bolt it up to their own frame.  It was also possible to use a rear suspension design from an outside company.  Fat Chance chose to exercise both those options on this Shock A Billy by using the AMP designed rear and Action Tec front suspension designs.  Since the Action Tec suspension was housed under the head tube, it required a specific frame design.  Fat Chance customized this one by using their own Big One Inch (BOI) style fork blades.  This bike was a prototype to see if this was a direction Fat wanted to take.  Since this is a one-of-one bike, it obviously wasn't the design they chose for production.  Parts package on this bike is typical for the era with parts from Avid, Ringle, Sampson and Answer to complement the Shimano XTR drive train.

This bike frame was restored to the original Team Violet (pastel purple base coat with sunrise red pearl top coat) by Rody at Groovy Cycleworks as a contribution to the MOMBAT collection.  Thanks Rody!
